Background

I have been a professional singer for over 20 years and have dedicated the last 10 years to teaching as well as performing. I have been studying the Estill Voice Training System for the past 5 years with experts at The Royal Academy of Music in London and I completed a Masters Degree in Music Performance (Singing) at Salford University, Manchester in 2006.

I started teaching singing 10 years ago and became fascinated by the way the voice works. I had never questioned how I created my sound - I opened my mouth and my singing voice just happened! When faced with students with little or no confidence, bad vocal habits or poor tone I did not have the vocabulary I needed or the understanding of anatomy to explain what was wrong. This prompted me to look for the right training method for my students and also for myself.

I have undertaken many courses up to advanced level in the Estill Voice Training System (See Vocal Technique) which is a system that produces remarkable results in both group and individual settings.

For part of my Masters Degree I studied the psychology of performance and developed an holistic approach to teaching which includes being aware of the effect the brain can have over the voice and how important it is to think of the whole body and mind and not just the vocal mechanism.

I also studied many different styles of music preparing recitals in Musical Theatre, Jazz and, for my final major performance, Classical and Opera.
